DO YOU NEED ADDITIONAL HEADSHOTS?
While there’s a typical 8x10 close up headshot that you use for your basic resume, some actors that approach more than one of the various acting markets will have custom shots depending on the market they are seeking. This is like having multiple resumes depending on the job you are seeking or customizing your cover letter for a particular job.
Using Various Headshots to Target Different Markets in Acting
Beyond your basic headshot, if you target a specific market, you may want to have multiple headshots. For example, a theater audition headshot may be a more classic and professional or movie star look of you groomed in a specific (but accurate for your in-person appearance) look.
If you target the television commercial or sitcom market you might want to have more than one look so that you have a headshot that you use for various auditions. For example, if you are looking at a businessperson role you may be dressed in a suit, you may also have a mom or dad role look as well as a handsome or glamorous headshot for roles that require that type of look.
Important:
Don’t stress if you don’t have the funds in the beginning to invest in a big portfolio that showcases various looks. Investing in one really professional headshot can get you started and help you land desirable roles.
