HEADSHOT TIPS FOR ACTORS IN ATLANTA
For many actors, the key to getting the audition or an appointment with an agent is dependent upon the quality and presentation of the headshot and resume. This article presented by the Professional Actor's Studio in Atlanta, Georgia offers some tips on working with Atlanta photographers.
Tips on How to Use Your Headshot to Get an Acting Job
I won't say that you can't get an acting job in this business without a headshot, because there are circumstances under which you can. Not only are those circumstances rare, but you'll look extremely unprofessional without a high-quality headshot and resume. If you're serious about being an actor, your headshots are a key factor in your audition and casting for a role.
If you have an agent, see if they have a preference for any particular photographer's work. Once you've received your contact sheet and proofs from the photographer, ask your agent to select the proofs to use for your headshots.
During this critical decision process, rely heavily on the expertise and advice of your acting agent. Don't try to select your headshots on your own. Your agent knows the "business of show business" and should best know how to market you with a particular headshot.
So how do you choose which headshot photographer to work with? Call them, meet them, look at their work. Ask yourself, How comfortable do I feel with the photographer?
The photographer has to capture you at your best -- or at least, your most natural. If you're uncomfortable with the photographer, it will show in the pictures. Most photographers guarantee their work and will reshoot if you're not happy. Don't waste your time and money by working with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable or seems difficult to work with. Our best advice is to find a headshot photographer that makes you feel at-ease and then allow them to capture you in a comfortable, natural state.
